Yes, 5x10 plywood exists: it is a 1525 × 3050 mm sheet, about 5 ft × 10 ft, made mostly as birch plywood and some formwork and industrial panels. It covers 4.65 m², 56% more than an 8x4 sheet, and few mills press it. This guide from Minh Thanh Plywood, a Vietnamese manufacturer, explains the format, its weight, when it beats a standard sheet on cutting yield and how to order around it.
Does plywood come in 5x10 sheets?
Yes, plywood comes in 5x10 sheets: the format is 1525 × 3050 mm, about 5 ft × 10 ft. It is a specialty size, made mainly by birch plywood mills and for some formwork and industrial panels, and most timber yards do not stock it.
| Fact | 5x10 plywood |
|---|---|
| Exact imperial size | 1524 × 3048 mm (60 × 120 in) |
| Size as pressed and sold | 1525 × 3050 mm |
| Area | 4.65 m² (about 50 sq ft) |
| Area compared with 8x4 (1220 × 2440 mm) | +56% |
| Common products | Birch plywood, birch film-faced formwork, industrial panels |
| Stocked by | Birch importers and specialist merchants |
The 5x10 sheet earns its place where a part must be one piece and wider than 1250 mm or longer than 2500 mm. For other parts, the cutting yield decides, and a standard sheet often wins it.
What size is a 5x10 sheet in mm, cm and inches?
Sizes in feet and inches convert at exactly 25.4 mm to the inch (NIST). A 5x10 sheet is 1525 × 3050 mm, which is 152.5 × 305 cm or 60.04 × 120.08 inches. The exact imperial 5 ft × 10 ft is 1524 × 3048 mm, and mills round it to 1525 × 3050.
| Format | mm | cm | inches | Area |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5x10 | 1525 × 3050 | 152.5 × 305 | 60.04 × 120.08 | 4.65 m² |
| 5x8 | 1525 × 2440 | 152.5 × 244 | 60.04 × 96.06 | 3.72 m² |
| 5x5 | 1525 × 1525 | 152.5 × 152.5 | 60.04 × 60.04 | 2.33 m² |
| 4x10 | 1220 × 3050 | 122 × 305 | 48.03 × 120.08 | 3.72 m² |
| 8x4 | 1220 × 2440 | 122 × 244 | 48.03 × 96.06 | 2.98 m² |
| European | 1250 × 2500 | 125 × 250 | 49.21 × 98.43 | 3.13 m² |
The 5x5 sheet (1525 × 1525 mm) is the classic birch plywood format; 5x10 is its double length. Our plywood sheet sizes guide covers the standard formats in more depth.

10 x 5 plywood or 5x10: does the order of the numbers matter?
For 10 x 5 plywood and 5x10 plywood, the sheet is the same, but the order of the numbers can tell you the grain direction. Birch plywood mills usually write the face-grain direction first.
- 3050 × 1525 mm (10x5): face grain runs along the 3050 mm length. This is the long-grain sheet most buyers expect.
- 1525 × 3050 mm (5x10): in birch catalogues, this can mean the grain runs across the sheet, along the 1525 mm side.
Grain direction changes the stiffness along the sheet and how parts look side by side. On an order, write the size, then “face grain along the 3050 mm side” or “across”, and check the first sample.
10x5 plywood: which products are made 5 ft wide?
10x5 plywood is made mostly in four product families. Each comes from mills whose machines are built for the wider sheet.
- Birch plywood. The 1525 × 1525 mm sheet is the traditional birch format, and 1525 × 3050 mm is its long version. Birch mills peel veneer at the right length for it, and importers quote it in face grades such as BB/CP and CP/CP.
- MDO and HDO overlay sign board. In the US the first 5x10 result is often an MDO (medium density overlay) sign panel: Douglas fir or hemlock plywood with a resin-fibre overlay on one or both faces, a waterproof glue bond and an APA PS 1-09 rating, sold unfinished for paint-grade signs and outdoor panels (Plywood Company, MDO 1S 1/2 in. 5x10). Listing read on 21 October 2026.
- Birch film-faced formwork panels. Some formwork systems use large sheets to cover more wall per lift with fewer joints.
- Industrial and transport panels. Vehicle floors, container floors and platforms sometimes use wide or long sheets, often scarf-jointed to length.
What a US buyer finds in 5x10 on the shelf today:
| 5x10 product | Typical build | Example listing |
|---|---|---|
| Birch plywood, BB/CP | 1/2 in. (12 mm), 1525 × 3050 mm | Imeca: US$117.83 a sheet, delivered in 1 to 2 working days |
| MDO sign board, one side | 1/2 in. (12.7 mm), Douglas fir or hemlock, APA PS 1-09 | Plywood Company, Texas |
| Birch film-faced formwork | 18-21 mm, ordered to the formwork system | Formwork suppliers, by order |
Imeca’s listing was read on 21 October 2026. The Imeca birch sheet works out at about US$2,110 per m³ for a 12 mm 5x10 sheet (0.0558 m³), against our US$350/m³ FOB for furniture plywood, which is the gap between a US shelf price and a container price before freight, duty and the importer’s margin.
Vietnamese plantation-core mills, ours included, are built around the 1220 × 2440 and 1250 × 2500 mm formats. Our cores are white Styrax or eucalyptus, and we face them with birch, poplar, okoume, EV and other veneers. See birch-faced plywood for our birch line.
Why do so few mills press 5x10 plywood?
Few mills press 5x10 plywood because every machine in the line has to take the larger sheet. A mill set up for 4x8 would need longer veneer, wider dryers, a bigger press and a wider sander to make it.
- Veneer length. A 3050 mm sheet needs face veneer longer than 3 m, or jointed veneer, and core veneer that covers 1525 mm across.
- Pressing. The hot press platens must be larger than the sheet, and the press opens for fewer sheets per cycle at that size.
- Sanding and handling. Calibrating sanders, saws, stackers and forklifts must take a 3 m sheet weighing 40–55 kg at 18 mm.
- Demand. Most furniture, construction and packing parts fit 8x4 or 1250 × 2500, so the larger line runs fewer orders.
That is why 5x10 is a specialty format with a higher price per cubic metre, and why it comes mainly from birch mills.
How much does a 5x10 sheet of plywood weigh?
A 5x10 sheet weighs its volume times the panel density. At 18 mm, a 1525 × 3050 mm sheet holds 0.0837 m³, so it weighs about 41.9 kg at 500 kg/m³ and about 54.4 kg at 650 kg/m³.
| Thickness | Volume | 500 kg/m³ | 580 kg/m³ | 650 kg/m³ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 mm | 0.0419 m³ | 20.9 kg | 24.3 kg | 27.2 kg |
| 12 mm | 0.0558 m³ | 27.9 kg | 32.4 kg | 36.3 kg |
| 18 mm | 0.0837 m³ | 41.9 kg | 48.6 kg | 54.4 kg |
| 25 mm | 0.1163 m³ | 58.1 kg | 67.4 kg | 75.6 kg |
The three densities are the reference values for Styrax, acacia and eucalyptus cores. Birch plywood is denser than all three, so a birch 5x10 weighs more. Above about 50 kg, most sites lift a sheet with two people or a vacuum lifter; plan handling before you order.

Which uses need a 5x10 sheet?
A 5x10 sheet is worth ordering when a part must be one piece and is wider than 1250 mm or longer than 2500 mm. Typical cases:
- Large tabletops and counters wider than 1250 mm without a joint.
- Stage, exhibition and display panels where a seam would show.
- Vehicle and trailer floors cut to the body width.
- Large formwork panels that cover more concrete per lift.
- Signage and model bases of one piece.
Floor, wall and roof sheathing gain fewer joints with a larger sheet, but builders usually prefer 8x4 because studs, joists and handling are set to it. For furniture carcasses, doors and shelves, standard sheets cut more parts per square metre.
Does a 5x10 sheet cut more parts than 8x4 or 1250 × 2500?
A 5x10 sheet cuts more parts only when the parts divide its width and length well or cannot fit a standard sheet; it loses when the parts were sized for 8x4 or 1250 × 2500.
| Part to cut | From 1525 × 3050 | From 1250 × 2500 | From 1220 × 2440 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wardrobe door 600 × 2000 mm | 2 parts, 52% of the sheet used | 2 parts, 77% used | 2 parts, 81% used |
| Shelf 400 × 1200 mm | 7 parts, 72% used | 6 parts, 92% used | 6 parts, 97% used |
| Cabinet side 600 × 720 mm | 10 parts, 93% used | 6 parts, 83% used | 6 parts, 87% used |
| Tabletop 1400 × 2800 mm | 1 part, 84% used | Not possible in one piece | Not possible in one piece |
The figures are the best simple saw pattern for each part on its own, ignoring kerf and edge trim. A mixed part list changes the result, so run your own list on each sheet before choosing the format.

What do 5x10 sheets cost compared with 8x4?
A 5x10 sheet holds 56% more panel than an 8x4 sheet, so it costs at least 1.56 times as much per sheet for the same build. In practice the gap is larger, because the format carries a premium per cubic metre.
An 18 mm 5x10 sheet holds 0.0837 m³, against 0.0536 m³ for an 8x4 sheet. At our furniture price of US$350/m³ that is a raw FOB value of about US$29.30 a sheet, and the 5x10 format adds its own premium per cubic metre on top. The standard alternative is a 1250 × 2500 mm sheet, 0.0563 m³ at 18 mm, or a custom 1220 × 2500 mm sheet pressed to order: both are formats our lines press as standard, and either one cuts most of the parts you would take from a 5x10 sheet.
Three things raise the price per cubic metre: few mills make the format, the larger sheet is slower to make and handle, and it ships less efficiently. Weigh that premium against the joint you save. If a tabletop needs one piece, the premium is the price of having no seam; if the parts fit a standard sheet, the premium buys waste. Our guide to plywood price by thickness shows how to convert a price per cubic metre into a sheet price.
How are 5x10 sheets shipped and handled?
5x10 sheets ship in packs on long pallets, and each sheet weighs 40–55 kg at 18 mm. The 3050 mm length fits inside a 40 ft container, but each pack is larger and heavier, so the load plan has to be worked out for the format rather than copied from an 8x4 plan. Plywood is processed wood and sits outside the ISPM 15 standard; solid sawn-wood bearers under the packs are inside it and carry the ISPM 15 mark (IPPC).
On arrival, the sheets need forklifts with long forks or side support, flat storage on enough bearers to stop sagging, and two people or a vacuum lifter per sheet. Edge damage is more common on long sheets, so corner and edge protection matter. Ask the supplier for the pack size, sheets per pack and the load plan before you book the freight.
Where can you buy 5x10 plywood?
You can buy 5x10 plywood from birch plywood importers, specialist timber merchants and some formwork suppliers. They stock 1525 × 3050 mm birch sheets in Europe, the UK and North America in the common furniture thicknesses. Importers in the EU should also check origin: the Commission said its 2024 extension of anti-dumping duties on birch plywood followed Russian birch plywood being shipped through, or finished in, Kazakhstan and Türkiye (European Commission).
Buyers in smaller markets, such as Malta or Cyprus, often find the format only through importers in larger neighbouring markets. For a container of furniture or interior plywood from Vietnam, the better route is to plan the parts on 1250 × 2500 or 1220 × 2440 mm sheets and order the parts cut to size. Our Vietnam plywood sizes guide shows the formats Vietnamese mills press.
How do you plan a 5x10 project on standard sheets?
Plan the part list first, then pick the sheet that cuts it with the least waste. Most projects drawn for 5x10 can be rebuilt on standard sheets in four steps.
- List every part with its size and grain direction.
- Mark the parts wider than 1250 mm or longer than 2500 mm. Only those need a large sheet, or a joint.
- Nest the rest on 1250 × 2500 and 1220 × 2440 mm and compare the yield.
- Order the standard parts cut to size, and buy the few oversize parts separately or join them.
We cut panels into 4, 6 or 8 pieces to order, and cut-to-size orders ship regularly to Italy and other European markets. See our cut-to-size plywood page.

What should you write on an order for large-format plywood?
Write the size in millimetres with the grain direction, the thickness with its tolerance, and the build. For a project first drawn on 5x10, send the part list with it, so the mill can propose the sheet that cuts it best.
A standard-sheet alternative to a 5x10 order looks like this:
Plywood 1250 × 2500 mm, face grain along 2500 mm, 18 mm ±0.2 mm, Styrax core stitched, double pressed, UF glue at E0 emission, birch face D+/D sanded both sides, cut to the attached part list, FOB Hai Phong.
Send it to contact@minhthanhplywood.com or through the cut-to-size plywood page; our quality and certificates page lists the documents that come with the order. Free samples of the chosen face and core go out on request, and we answer within hours.

Buyer questions, answered
Does plywood come in 5x10 sheets?
Yes. The 5x10 sheet is 1525 × 3050 mm, about 5 ft × 10 ft. It is made mainly as birch plywood and as some formwork and industrial panels, and it is a specialty size rather than a stock size.
What size is a 5x10 sheet of plywood in mm?
Exactly 5 ft × 10 ft is 1524 × 3048 mm. Mills press and sell it as 1525 × 3050 mm, with an area of 4.65 m², about 50 sq ft.
Is 10x5 plywood the same as 5x10?
It is the same sheet, but birch mills usually write the face-grain direction first. 3050 × 1525 mm means grain along the 3050 mm length; 1525 × 3050 mm can mean grain across it. Say which one you need.
How much does an 18 mm 5x10 sheet of plywood weigh?
The sheet holds 0.0837 m³, so at 500 kg/m³ it weighs about 41.9 kg, at 580 kg/m³ about 48.6 kg and at 650 kg/m³ about 54.4 kg. Birch panels, being denser, weigh more.
Why is 5x10 plywood hard to find?
Most mills set their lathes, dryers, presses and sanders for 4x8 and 1250 × 2500 mm sheets. A 5 ft wide sheet needs longer veneer and a larger press, so only a few mills make it, mostly birch mills.
Where can I buy 5x10 plywood?
Birch plywood importers and specialist timber merchants stock 1525 × 3050 mm sheets in Europe, the UK and North America. For container orders from Vietnam, plan the parts on 1250 × 2500 or 1220 × 2440 mm sheets or order them cut to size.
What is 5x10 plywood used for?
Parts that must be one piece wider than 1250 mm or longer than 2500 mm: large tabletops, stage and display panels, vehicle floors and some formwork. For parts that fit a standard sheet, the cutting yield decides.
Is 5x10 plywood more expensive than 4x8?
Per sheet, a 5x10 holds 56% more panel than an 8x4, and the format usually carries a premium per cubic metre because few mills make it and it costs more to ship and handle.
What is 5x8 plywood?
A 1525 × 2440 mm sheet, about 5 ft × 8 ft. It appears in some birch and formwork ranges and covers 3.72 m², but it is rarer than 5x10 and 5x5.
Does Minh Thanh press 5x10 sheets?
We press 1220 × 2440 and 1250 × 2500 mm as standard, plus custom sizes such as 1220 × 2500 and 1220 × 2280 mm, and we cut panels into 4, 6 or 8 pieces to order. Send your part list and we propose the sheet that cuts it best.
